MY ENCOUNTER WITH THE KING

Spring 2007

To my fellow soldiers:

How did you come to know about Jesus?  Did you hear about Him from your parents or grandparents?  Did you grow up in Church, listening to sermons about Him?  Was He presented to you at a camp or concert?  Did you read a book or watch a movie that mentioned Him?  Did a friend tell you about Him?  These are all good ways of being introduced to Him, but in order for Jesus to change your life, you must have a personal encounter with Him.  In 2002, that is what happened to me.  I finally faced my fears and started my mission of knowing Him personally.

My introduction to Jesus came when I was a child.  I was a Pastor's daughter, so I grew up in Church.  I asked Jesus into my heart at the age of 4, and all through my childhood, I enjoyed going to Sunday School, Children's Church, Church Camp, and Youth Group.  That was my life for 17 years.  I even chose to go to a Christian College, but even all of that didn't bring me to a personal encounter with Jesus.  I had moments of feeling His presence in my life, and I was even given a prophetic word about my calling when I was teenager, but my relationship with Him stayed on the surface level.

Instead of seeking out His love, I wound up searching and finding other loves to fulfill my life.  That is what occupied my mind most of the time.  Those loves, though, didn't last and left me with a broken heart.  It wasn't until I was married a second time, when I started to look for Jesus again.  I found out that He was still thinking of me and reminded me of the calling that He gave to me long ago.

In my search to know and to love Him, I asked the Lord to teach me how to be a better wife and to show me what His Word says about marriage.  By His Spirit, He did just that and opened my eyes to a mystery that I wasn't even expecting - one that was hard for me to believe at first.  But, when His Spirit started to make it clear to me, I couldn't keep it to myself.  That is why I wrote about it in this Bible study.  I want others to know how the King loves us and how He is establishing His Kingdom again.

So, if you have already had a personal encounter with Jesus, then I hope this study will be a reminder to you of His love for you.  But, if you are one that hasn't had a personal encounter with Jesus yet, then my prayer is for your eyes to be opened so that you encounter the King face to face!

In His love,

Angie Compton (a.k.a. Biblestudymom)

When you said, "Seek my face," my heart said to you, "O LORD, I will seek your face."
